Mohammad S Jalali PhD

Mohammad Jalali (aka, ‘MJ’) is an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School and a senior lecturer at MIT Sloan School of Management. MJ is an expert in systems thinking and applies simulation modeling, data science, optimization, and economic evaluation approaches in population health. He aims to help policymakers identify and develop high-leverage policies that are not only effective over the long haul but also are not thwarted by unanticipated side effects. Since 2019, MJ has been the PI of four large-scale, population-based modeling projects to understand the complexities of substance use disorders, awarded by the FDA and CDC. He is also a co-PI or co-Investigator to apply systems thinking methods in health policy in a dozen projects awarded by NIH and NSF. His work has been featured by The New York Times, Washington Post, and Associated Press, among others. He has been an associate editor for System Dynamics Review, the field’s flagship journal, and the recipient of several awards, including the Dana Meadows Award and the Lupina Young Researcher Award.
